Posted by Ohm51 on August 11, 2009 #85920 The uprooting of Palestinian Olive Groves is a sacrilege; and as a Native American I understand that this desecration is the literal uprooting of the people from their lands. This film struck a very deep chord in me, as a Native person I understand perfectly the heartache of such a soulless desecration, in that the olive trees that gave you both sustenance and strength being ripped from the earth are more than just a livelihood lost, though such loss is, I am certain, significant and deep. The destruction of the olive groves is a heartless crime that spans more than the present tense, it is a destruction in the time continuum, that breaks the Palestinians connection to their past and robs from all future generation that which rightfully belongs to them as a heritage and legacy. The sad parallel in my own tradition and culture is the Buffalo ...and what those settlers from the Amrican epic did to the once great herds ... in order to deprive my people of their sustenance and to uproot our way of life. The Buffalo for Native people was more than a mere animal to exploit ... it was also the symbol of the people themselves ... as we learned from them how to survive in this world, how to walk with honor, strength, and dignity, we revered it as we took sustenance of it. It was a sacred alliance that transcends mere words. It is my sincere prayer that your people will survive these degradations ... and that such crimes against nature and humanity will one day surely end.
