Return to al-Ghubayya al-Fawqa

Posted by Arab Al Turkman on January 25, 2001

Al Ghubayyah al fawqa is one of the eight villages belonging to the tribe Arab Al Turkman. In 1948 my grand father and his family had to leave his village with force by the Jews. From his village he moved to Jenin and settled down in the small village Al Zababedah. I asked my father why they did not go to Jordan. My father answered me "My son, Your grandfather did not want to move long away from his own village Al Ghubayyah Al Fawqa. He used to say to me when there was some wind in the start of spring or winter: Smell my son smell!! smell the air from your village Al Ghubayya", and then he always started to cry. My father also told me a story when two of his bigger brothers -he had eight- went to Al Ghubayya al fawqa in 1952 and returned with two sacks of (addas) linses from my grandfathers land. My grandfather got angry and afterwards he looked in one of the sacks and saw a piece of earth from Al Ghubbaya. He ate the earth and started crying and said May Allah punish the ones who took my land. Shortly after this he died. So many of the Turkmans went to Jenin and nearby villages and still until now they live there waiting...
