Return to Safsaf |

I want to go home to Safsaf ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Yahya Abdul Rahman The Palestinian village of Safsaf was ethnically cleansed by Zioinsts on Oct 29, 1948. (see Safsaf, Safad) I know a man here in Montreal who is originally from this village. He and his family were driven out when he was only 5 years old. He is now 57. He has hardly any memories of what it was like to live there other then what his family told him over the years. They had fled to Lebanon where they lived in camps for many years and then the man lived in many parts of the Muslim world. He NEVER felt at home and was constantly discriminated against because he was Palestinian. I asked him if he were given the opportunity to return to his home, even though he has been away for so long, would he do so. His eyes lit up as if I asked him the most stupid question I have ever asked anyone. He raised his voice and said "OF COURSE I would go back in a second, and so would every refugee." He said that the Palestinians never had a real identity outside of Palestine and it was their beloved land which gave them this identity. Even though I am not Palestinian, I was moved by his determination and strong attachment to the land. I thought to myself that the longing which burns in his heart must also burn in the hearts of 5 million Palestinian refugees who just want to go home. e-mail iapinfo@iap.orgIf you are the aboveauthor of the Story, you can edit your Story by clicking the button below:
